Time to Take the Gloves Off
Recently Grover Norquist, anti-tax crusader, ultra-conservative activist and all around wing nut said that "Bipartisanship is another name for date rape." Though Norquist is not all that high on the totem poll, he's still got a fair amount of influence. More importantly, his views reflect the deeds of the Republicans, if not their rhetoric. The GOP has no interest in consensus building or cooperation. Democrats that have tried to appease the Republicans by coping out on various issues have found that they weren't attacked any less visciously than the rest of their party (and frankly, for such disloyalty and cowardice, they had it coming). The Texas Republican's redistricting scheme (and the misuse of Homeland Security to try and track democrats that had walked out in order to kill the plan), which was organized at the national level, the effort to recall Governor Davis shows, the bitter attacks on the patriotism of Democrats, especially in the case of veteran and amputee Max Cleland and less recently, the theft of the presidency show without a doubt that the Republicans aren't interested in playing fair. These ruthless actions speak louder than even Norquist's questionable choice of words. This leaves the Democrats with only one option: UNRESTRICTED PARTISAN WARFARE. Once we finally accept and embrace this truth, we can stop get the stuffing knocked out of us and start having fun.
