Online girlfriends sell love to the dateless

Most people probably feel a similar mix of amusement and pity when they hear about girls ebaying the privilege to receive fake love letters from them. It could certainly have funny applications. Imagine receiving girlfriend gift certificates for Christmas or overhearing people bragging about what a deal they got on their last imaginary boyfriend. As long as it is all in fun, that’s simply what it is, fun. You aren’t against fun are you? Didn’t think so.

There are, of course, a couple problems. One is the potential for prostitution, and the other is the implication that people seriously would want to subscribe to a girlfriend without it being a joke. I don’t think either would become all that common even if unchecked. It wouldn’t be a terribly convenient or secretive way to arrange sex, and it certainly wouldn’t give you status points when people found out who “Sally” really was. Nonetheless, a new sort pornography might very well emerge. If it does, I’m sure I’ll get emails about the best offers several times per day.
